Overview and Context of the Vacancy

WFP’s China Office is looking for a talented and motivated Communications Volunteer to join its team in Beijing, starting June 2025, for a duration of 6–8 months. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates with a background in communications, translation, media, or public relations who want to contribute to a meaningful cause while developing practical skills in digital communications and global humanitarian affairs.


Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Communications Officer, the volunteer will support WFP’s communication efforts by:

  • Assisting in the implementation of the communications work plan to enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation in China
  • Translating and adapting WFP global social media content for Chinese platforms
  • Translating media materials such as press releases, statements, and stories
  • Editing multimedia content (text, video, and images) for various platforms
  • Supporting online and offline campaigns and publicity events, including content creation and event coordination
  • Monitoring Chinese media and collecting relevant news related to WFP’s work
  • Producing regular social media monitoring and performance reports
  • Performing other communications-related duties as assigned

Learning Objectives

By the end of the assignment, the Communications Volunteer will have:

  • Gained hands-on experience in managing multilingual communications and media outreach
  • Developed professional skills in digital content creation, translation, and event support
  • Enhanced understanding of communications strategies within an international humanitarian context
  • Strengthened collaboration, organizational, and stakeholder engagement capabilities

Required Skills and Competencies

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within the past six months) in Communications, English, Translation, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Specialised training in communications is desirable

Language:

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Chinese is required

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong ability to use photo and video editing software
  • Excellent writing and translation skills
  • Knowledge of digital media trends and social platforms

Required Qualifications

  • University attendance within the past 12 months
  • Chinese nationality
  • A strong interest in humanitarian work and international development
