Are you passionate about democracy, human rights, and international advocacy? The European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) is offering an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to gain hands-on experience in advocacy, research, and communications while working remotely.
About ECDHR
The European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) is a Brussels-based NGO dedicated to promoting democracy and protecting human rights, with a strong focus on Europe, the Middle East, and engagement with international institutions. ECDHR works closely with the European Parliament, European Commission, EU Member States, and the United Nations to ensure accountability, advance reforms, and strengthen human rights protections worldwide.
Internship Overview
- Position: Advocacy Internship
- Number of Openings: 6 interns
- Location: Remote
- Duration: 6 months, full-time
- Compensation: Unpaid (academic credit available through universities)
- Reporting to: Executive Director
Key Responsibilities
All interns will be immersed in the advocacy cycle of ECDHR’s work, with opportunities to:
- Draft and publish weekly blog posts on human rights and democracy issues.
- Contribute to monthly briefing papers targeting EU institutions, UN mechanisms, and other policy stakeholders.
- Design and execute a final capstone project, independently conceiving and running an advocacy initiative with staff guidance.
- Support policy research and advocacy related to the European Parliament, European Commission, and UN system.
- Contribute to communications and outreach, including digital campaigns, social media strategy, and innovative tools for audience engagement.
Eligibility Requirements
- Strong interest in human rights, international law, or Middle East politics.
- Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Creativity and initiative to design independent advocacy projects.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- For Digital Advocacy applicants: experience with campaign design, social media management, or digital communication tools is an asset.
