Search for Common Ground (Search) is offering a unique Fall 2025 internship opportunity for motivated students to gain hands-on experience in program development, partnerships, and fundraising within the world’s largest dedicated peacebuilding organisation. This internship provides a behind-the-scenes look into how NGOs design projects, build donor relationships, and advance global missions for peace.

Search for Common Ground is an international non-profit organisation committed to promoting the peaceful resolution of conflict. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Search works to transform how individuals, organisations, and governments approach conflict, shifting from adversarial approaches to cooperative solutions. With a global staff of approximately 600 and projects implemented from 54 offices across 34 countries, Search is a leader in peacebuilding across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.


Position Summary
The Global Affairs and Partnerships (GAP) Team is seeking a Global Program Development Intern for Fall 2025. This position will provide critical research and support to fundraising, program design, and partnership development, directly contributing to Search’s mission.

Important Note: This internship is unpaid and is only open to applicants enrolled in an academic program who will receive financial support or a stipend from their educational institution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of global partnerships, project designs, and proposals.
  • Conduct research on fundraising opportunities with bilateral donors, multilateral organisations, and foundations.
  • Identify and research potential program development and partnership opportunities.
  • Represent Search at relevant meetings and events in Washington, D.C.
  • Develop and update knowledge management tools and resources, including capacity statements, fundraising analysis, and strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in International Relations, Conflict Studies, Development, or a related field.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online research tools.

Desired Qualities

  • Demonstrable interest in peacebuilding, foreign policy, and international partnerships.
  • Experience or coursework related to fundraising, donor engagement, or program development.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Self-starting, flexible, and enthusiastic approach.
  • Available for 32–40 hours per week.

Internship Conditions

  • Location: Remote (with opportunities to attend relevant Washington, D.C. events if based locally).
  • Duration: Fall 2025 (late August/early September to mid-December).
  • Compensation: Unpaid – applicants must receive academic credit or financial support from their home institution.
  • Supervision: Intern will be part of the Global Affairs and Partnerships team and mentored by experienced program development staff.
