Field of Activity

The Sector Project “Employment Promotion in Development Cooperation” advocates for employment-oriented approaches in German and international development cooperation. Acting in an advisory role to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the project:

  • develops studies and concept papers,
  • organizes expert discussions,
  • contributes to strategy consultations and evaluations, and
  • fosters dialogue with academia, international organizations, and other donors.

Key themes include employment effects, labor market analysis, sectoral strategies, and the link between vocational training, higher education, and employment promotion. Additional focus areas:

  • Public job creation programs
  • Employment-oriented private sector promotion
  • Partnerships with businesses
  • Employment promotion for youth and women

The regional focus is on sub-Saharan Africa and the MENA region.


Your Tasks

During your internship, you will:

  • Conduct literature reviews, statistical research, and information gathering
  • Assist in preparing and implementing high-profile specialist events
  • Participate in workshops/meetings and compile results
  • Support editorial work for studies and reports
  • Carry out administrative tasks, knowledge management, and information sharing as needed

Your Profile

  • Current studies in economics or social sciences with an economic focus
  • Strong academic performance, with knowledge of labor market and employment policy as well as development policy
  • Excellent writing skills in German and English; confident IT user (MS Office, SharePoint, internet research, document management)
  • Knowledge of impact measurement, sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) or MENA, or approaches to vocational/higher education or private sector development is an advantage
  • Independent, reliable, and well-organized; strong time management
  • Motivated team player, quick to familiarize with new topics
  • Practical/academic experience in international cooperation or initial experience abroad is an asset

Internship Conditions

  • Eligibility: You must be enrolled in university, enrolled in a continuing-education program requiring an internship, or have graduated within the last 6 months before the internship start date.
  • Compensation: €2,205.04 gross per month.
