The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is hiring a Project Manager to run the CARPET initiative driving corporate accountability, fair negotiations, and shared prosperity through strong due diligence and strategic advocacy.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is a global NGO (80+ team members across five regions) that:

Focus areas include: just energy transition & natural resources; civic freedoms & human rights defenders; accountable digital technologies; workers’ rights in global supply chains, strengthened by corporate legal accountability and racial & gender justice.


Background & Context

The CARPET project (EU-funded) aims to support a green, rights-based economic transition in Africa and Asia, centring rights holders, transforming business models, and advocating policy reforms. The Project Manager will:

  • Empower grassroots civil society to shape green initiatives
  • Engage businesses/investors to adopt robust human rights & environmental due diligence
  • Advocate for rights-respecting regulation, with targeted work in Brussels to elevate impact

Duties & Responsibilities

Operations & Compliance

  • Lead end-to-end project operations and delivery with on-the-ground partners
  • Manage budget, forecasting, sub-grants (FSTP); implement MEAL/OPSYS and regular reporting
  • Serve as first donor liaison (programmatic + operational) and ensure EU terms compliance
  • Oversee financial & narrative reporting; maintain accurate documentation and admin

Programme, Research & Advocacy

  • Co-create communications strategies supporting rights holders
  • Coordinate with the global Just Transition programme to surface high-risk sector cases (renewables, mining, agriculture, textile) for investigation and advocacy
  • Design and deliver advocacy-oriented research on abuses, policies, and corporate practice
  • Track trends; develop knowledge products (briefings, blogs, reports)

Partnerships & Representation

  • Build and sustain networks with CSOs, companies, investors, media, universities, governments
  • Represent the organisation at events, meetings, and in media
  • Publish compelling content for web and outreach

People & Team

  • Work closely with the Director of Regional Programmes; provide line management (≥1 report)
  • Share admin tasks; train and support interns/staff as needed
  • Occasional national/international travel

Requirements & Eligibility Criteria

Essential

  • 6–8 years in human rights / business & human rights / labour / development / environmental or social justice
  • 3+ years leading multicultural, international teams; talent development experience
  • Proven EU-funded project management (on-time delivery; budget & impact tracking)
  • Strategy track record; advocacy exposure; stakeholder engagement across sectors
  • Knowledge of UNGPs, CSDDD, and international human rights standards
  • Experience with sub-granting (FSTP); MEAL/OPSYS familiarity
  • Excellent English; proficient in Microsoft 365
  • Right to work in country of residence
