The Brussels office serves as a hub for European institutional relations, fundraising, and strategic partnerships, engaging directly with EU institutions, governments, and foundations to support global peacebuilding initiatives.


Position: Business Development and Partnership Intern
Search for Common Ground is seeking a professional and motivated intern to join its Brussels-based Global Affairs & Partnerships team. This internship provides hands-on experience in European business development, donor engagement, and proposal development in an international NGO setting.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development (70%):

  • Research European (EU, governments, foundations) funding opportunities.
  • Support the drafting and review of funding proposals and related documents.
  • Analyse fundraising data to strengthen donor strategies.
  • Assist in partner and donor meetings.
  • Carry out additional tasks linked to business development as needed.

Other Support (30%):

  • Provide general administrative assistance.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the intern may be required to undertake other duties in line with the above responsibilities.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, conflict studies, development studies, political science, or a related field (Master’s degree an asset).
  • Demonstrated research skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of European institutions and EU decision-making procedures.
  • Excellent command of English, written and oral.
  • Prior volunteering or professional experience in business development or a related field is an asset.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Desired Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of French (strong advantage).
  • Knowledge of Dutch (desirable).
  • Experience in a non-profit, NGO, governmental, or international environment.

Supervision and Working Conditions
The intern will join the Partnership and Business Development Team and will be supervised by the Partnership and Business Development Specialist.

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium (usual office environment).
  • Hybrid Policy: Minimum of two days per week presence in the office.

Contract and Benefits

  • Framework: Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP) / Beroepsinlevingsstage – applicable to recent graduates with the legal ability to live and work in Belgium (including EEA citizens and Switzerland).
  • Duration: 6 months, full-time (32+ hours/week).
  • Compensation: €1,056 per month (full-time).
  • Start Date: October 13, 2025.
