Internship Overview
UNESCO offers internship opportunities in its various Programme Sectors, Field Offices, and Category I Institutes. As an intern, you will join a dynamic team where you will be exposed to a range of colleagues and have the opportunity to contribute to the organization’s global mission.
The internship will allow you to immerse yourself in a wide range of tasks based on the needs of the team and the specific requirements of the assignment. Whether you are contributing to research, supporting the organization of major events, or assisting with communications, you will play an essential role in advancing UNESCO’s work.
Key Responsibilities
Your tasks will vary depending on the team and the project, but some of your key duties may include:
Research & Documentation
- Conduct research and prepare summaries on a range of topics relevant to UNESCO’s programs.
- Contribute to the creation of documents, both substantive and communication-focused, to support the work of the team.
- Analyze data and present it in a clear, actionable format to inform decision-making.
Event Coordination & Communication
- Assist in organizing and promoting events related to UNESCO’s initiatives, ensuring effective communication and outreach.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences with both internal and external stakeholders, helping to foster collaboration and exchange of ideas.
- Support communication efforts, ensuring that relevant stakeholders are kept informed about UNESCO’s key events and initiatives.
Collaborating with the UN System
- Liaise with colleagues in other entities of the United Nations System, fostering collaboration across international institutions.
- Contribute to the technical and operational aspects of your team, enhancing the collective efficiency and impact.
Project Support
- Assist with specific projects by contributing to tasks as needed, ensuring smooth progress and timely completion.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the UNESCO internship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age: You must be at least 20 years old at the time of application.
- Academic Qualifications: You should be enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) or have graduated within the past 12 months.
- Languages: Proficiency in English or French (written and spoken) is required. A working knowledge of the other language is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Strong command of computer systems and office software is essential.
- Team Player: You should be comfortable working in a team-oriented, international environment.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
Conditions of the Internship
- Duration: The internship lasts between 1 and 6 months.
- Location: The internship can be based at UNESCO Headquarters, Field Offices, or Institutes.
- Compensation: Please note that this internship is unpaid. However, interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during their internship.
- Visa & Health Insurance: Interns are responsible for obtaining their visa and ensuring that they have appropriate health insurance coverage during the internship.
