🌍 Context of the Role
Italy remains a central entry point for refugees and migrants arriving through the Mediterranean. UNICEF responds through a two-pronged approach:
- Delivering humanitarian services to children and women in need.
- Building long-term systems with governments and partners to strengthen protection, guardianship, alternative care, and GBV prevention.
The Gender and Protection Programme Officer will play a key role in enhancing GBV programming, mainstreaming gender, and supporting survivors while contributing to systemic reforms and capacity building.
📌 Duties & Responsibilities
As a UN Volunteer Specialist, you will:
- Provide technical support on gender mainstreaming, GBV programming, and PSEA focal point responsibilities.
- Assist with training sessions, workshops, advocacy papers, and programme documents.
- Build alliances with key actors to advance gender-sensitive programming.
- Support project management, reporting, and monitoring of progress.
- Coordinate with UN agencies, ministries, and civil society organizations.
- Engage in global and regional networks on gender and GBV.
✅ Eligibility Requirements
- Age: 18 – 80
- Education: Master’s degree in Law, Gender Studies, Migration Studies, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in GBV, gender, or protection programmes (UNICEF/UN experience is an asset).
- Languages: Fluent in Italian and English.
- Strong knowledge of Italy’s refugee and protection system is highly desirable.
💰 Benefits & Allowances
Selected candidates will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package:
- Living Allowance: EUR 3,297.96/month
- Entry Lump Sum: USD 400 one-time
- Exit Allowance: EUR 274 per month served (paid at end of contract)
- Family Allowance: $250 (1 dependent) / $450 (2+ dependents)
- Insurance: Comprehensive medical & life coverage (Cigna)
- Leave: Annual leave (2.5 days/month), certified & uncertified sick leave, learning leave, maternity/paternity leave.
