Introduction

The IRENA Youth Forum 2026 will take place from 8 – 10 January 2026 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, alongside the Sixteenth IRENA Assembly. This flagship event of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is designed to empower youth, amplify their voices in global energy policy, and foster collaboration on renewable energy solutions.

With only 119 days to go, young innovators, changemakers, and leaders are invited to apply and become part of this global platform shaping the future of sustainable energy.

About IRENA

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization supporting countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future. It serves as a hub for knowledge, innovation, and cooperation in renewable energy, connecting governments, the private sector, and civil society worldwide.

Background and Context

The eighth edition of the Youth Forum will be held under the theme:
“Youth Innovation and Digital Solutions: From AI to Access in Renewable Energy.”

This year’s Forum will highlight how youth are leveraging artificial intelligence, digitalization, and new business models to expand renewable energy access. The event will feature:

High-Level Opening and interactive workshops (8–9 January)
Closing Session during the IRENA Assembly (10 January)
Youth-led activities such as the Youth Booth, Youth Lounge, and IRENA Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week

Eligibility Requirements

The Forum is open to youth aged 18–35 who are:

Actively engaged in renewable energy, sustainability, or innovation
Leading or contributing to projects, startups, research, or advocacy advancing the energy transition
Motivated to collaborate with peers and partners on scaling global impact

Benefits of Participation

Selected participants will:

Gain direct exposure to global renewable energy policy discussions
Network with high-level decision makers, innovators, and youth leaders worldwide
Co-develop the Youth Forum Outcome Statement, presented at IRENA’s Assembly
Access further opportunities through IRENA’s youth initiatives, such as the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator and the Energy Transition Education Network
