📌 Role Overview

Support the Political Team with reporting, analysis, and programme management focused on:

  • Colombian politics and regional dynamics
  • Human rights monitoring and programming
  • Coordination of internal embassy activities

This role provides hands-on diplomatic experience, exposure to political analysis, human rights, and international relations, and opportunities to support high-level engagement.


🛠️ Roles & Responsibilities

Politics Reporting & Engagement (40%)

  • Analyse and report on Colombian domestic politics & regional affairs.
  • Attend meetings/events and draft records.
  • Provide political support across embassy programmes and events.

Human Rights Delivery (40%)

  • Review proposals, reports, and budgets for human rights programming.
  • Support the UK Human Rights Strategy in Colombia.
  • Research issues on:
    • Human rights defenders
    • Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict
    • Implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement

Administration & Logistics (20%)

  • Manage Political Team admin duties (mailbox, scheduling, event logistics).
  • Support visits, meetings with stakeholders and other embassies.
  • Coordinate weekly political team meetings (secretariat role).

🎯 Essential Requirements

  • Enrolled in final semesters of Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, or History (in a Colombian university).
  • At least 6 months before graduation date (to complete internship).
  • Interest in politics, international relations, and human rights.
  • Full-time availability; responsible and committed.
  • Strong teamwork skills, able to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Strong writing/reporting skills in English.
  • Must have legal status to live/work in Colombia.
